Importance of Animals in Islam

Assalamwalekum my dear Brothers and Sisters, earlier we have discussed Islamic way to deal with bad relatives and in this article, we will talk about the 9 importance of Animals in Islam according to Hadith.

It is related from Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah (Ra) that a group of Companions were once on a journey with the Prophet, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he left them for a while. During his absence, they saw a bird with its two young, and they took the young ones from the nest. The mother bird was circling above in the air, beating its wings in grief, when the Prophet(salallahualahiwasallam) came back and said,”Who has hurt the feelings of this bird by taking its young? Return them to her.”

Prophet Muhammad (salallahualahiwasallam) said :-“If someone kills a sparrow for sport, the sparrow will cry out on the Day of Judgment, “O Lord! That person killed me in vain! He did not kill me for any useful purpose.”

The Prophet, (may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him), said,“Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without a just cause, God will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgment.” The listeners asked, “O Messenger of God,what is a just cause?” He replied, “That he will kill it to eat, not simply to chop off itshead and then throw it away.”

Reward for mercy:-

Abu Umama(Ra) relates that the Messenger of Allah, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), said:- “Whoever is merciful even to a sparrow, Allah will be merciful to him on theDay of Judgment.

It is related from Abu Hurayra(Ra) from the Prophet, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that a prostitute once saw a dog on a very hot day circling a well, lolling its tongue because of its thirst. She drew some water for it using her shoe, and for this action, all her sins were forgiven her. (Muslim)

(“Animals are like humans:“A good deed done to an animal is like a good deed done to a human being, while an act of cruelty to an animal is as bad as cruelty to a human being.”)

Punishment for being cruel to animals:-

It is related from Abdullah ibn Umar(Ra) that the Messenger of Allah, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), said:- “A woman was once punished after death because of a cat which she had kept confined until it died, and because of this she entered the Fire. She had neither given it food or drink while confining it, nor had she let it free to eat the creatures of the earth.”(Muslim)

The Prophet of Allah (salallahualahiwasallam) said:- ‘When you journey through a verdant land, go slow to let your camels graze. When you pass through an arid area, quicken your pace lest hunger should enfeeble the animals. Do not pitch your tents for the night on the beaten tracks, for they are the pathways of nocturnal creatures. (Muslim).

The Prophet (salallahualahiwasallam) also said, ‘When you set your dog for the chase, mention the name of Allah, if he catches the game, and you reach it while it is still alive, cut, its throat quickly (so it won’t suffer)’. (Bukhari, Muslim).

Abu Huraira (Ra) reported the Prophet (salallahualahiwasallam) as telling of an incident that happened to another prophet (peace be upon him) in the past. This prophet was stung by an ant and, in anger, he ordered the whole of the ants’ nest to be burned. At this, God reprimanded this prophet in these words,’Because one ant stung you, you have burned a whole community which glorified Me’.

(Bukhari and Muslim).

Do not wish to be like anyone, Except…

Narrated `Abdullah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said,

“Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases:

(1) A man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously.

(2) A man whom Allah has given wisdom (knowledge of the Qur’an and the Hadith) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 9, Book 93, Hadith 5)

Narrated Abu Musa:

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“The Mamluk (slave) who worships his Lord in a perfect manner, and is dutiful, sincere and obedient to his Saiyid (master), will get a double reward.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 3, Book 49, Hadith 35)

Don’t cry for your loss. ALLAH won’t take anything from a believer without replacing it with something better.

ALLAH said in the Qur’aan,

“Perhaps you may dislike something which is good for you, and like something which is bad for you. ALLAH knows and you do not.” (2:216)

How to earn reward of manumitting ten slaves in Islam

Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (sall’Allahu alaihi wasallam) said :

“Whoever says,

La ilah ill` Allah,
wahdahu la sharika lahu
Lahul mulk wa lahul hamd,
wahua `ala kulli shayin qadeer’
{ There is no true god except Allah.
He is One and He has no partner with Him;
His is the sovereignty and His is the praise,
and He is powerful over everything }

One hundred times will get the same reward as given for manumitting ten slaves; and one hundred good deeds will be written in his accounts,
and one hundred sins will be deducted from his accounts, and it will be a shield for him from Satan on that day till night, and nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he.

{ Sahih Al-Bukhari ~ Book #75, Hadith #412 }
